JOHN CARPENTER live in the studio

John Carpenter has been having a frigging whale of a time lately.

Not only has the world’s most beloved horror-movie director released two extraordinary instrumental albums in as many years (2015’s Lost Themes and this year’s Lost Themes II), he’s also hitting the road this year for his FIRST EVER live performances, and to top it all off Carpenter has just announced a limited series of 12″ EPs featuring re-recordings of his most iconic horror themes.

john carpenter 12" reissues

There are two 12″ releases, with the first featuring the classic Halloween theme b/w Escape From New York and the second will feature the dancefloor stomping Assault on Precinct 13 b/w the creepy-ass theme to The Fog,

Each track has been newly re-recorded by Carpenter and his Lost Themes bandmates, namely his son Cody Carpenter on synthesizer, and godson Daniel Davies on guitar.

And for you nerdish obsessives out there (and yes me) each double A-sided 12″ picture disc will be available in deluxe mylar mirrorboard sleeves limited to 2,000 copies and there’s a random mystery colour version limited to 400 copies and available from Sacred Bones.

As a taster for the new recordings, and indeed for his forthcoming live shows, you can watch a live studio video for ‘Escape From New York’ filmed at The Village Recorder studio in Los Angeles below. This is directed by Carpenter himself, so expect everyone in the room to be despatched by pirate ghosts in the final few moments.
