The sun is shining, it’s a Bank Holiday coming up and I’ve found five cool foodie things happening soon that will make your weekend even better.
This week’s round-up includes: National Burger Day, fried chicken from Boondocks, a Rumfest and 50% off steak from Sargardi and Turkish food from Yosma.
National Burger Day 2016
My favourite day of the year is here! National Burger Day takes place on Thursday 25th August 2016 so clear your diaries! This is a hallowed day on which us mere mortals are able to get 20% off burgers from a shitload of cool restaurants across London and the whole of the UK. All you have to do to partake in this joyous occasion is download a voucher for your chosen restaurant, turn up and stuff your face, and obviously give somebody the voucher before you pay. What a great day!
The Method’s Unsound team will also be attending the National Burger Day 2016 Party at the wonderful Hawker House that night too, where some of London’s best burger talent will be serving up more burgers than we can fit into our bodies. Burger big hitters attending include Dip & Flip, Bleecker Street and Lucky Chip so needless to say it should be a freakin’ great time! I am already starving myself in preparation.
Boondocks Diner is opening in Old Street
After the success of their Carnaby Street venue, the team over at Stax Diner are branching out and bringing their Soul Food diner over to Old Street this week. In-keeping with their love of the American Deep South the menu is full of classics such as Buttermilk Fried Chicken, Cheeseburgers, Blooming Onions, Milkshakes and Donuts. Even better than that, they will be offering 50% off all food on 24th-25th August before they fully open on Friday 26th August 2016. They don’t take reservations so you’d better be quick, buddy! You have been warned.
Address: 205 City Road, London, EC1V 1JT
National Rum Day: RumFest 2016
Rum fans and pirates behold! National Rum Day is back with Rumfest 2016: the UK’s biggest celebration of all things rum related. Taking place on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd October 2016 at London’s ILEC, Earl’s Court, booze-fans will be able to sample over 400 different rums including some of the world’s rarest and most expensive tipples, while soaking up the carnival atmosphere. There will be seminars by mixologists to show you how to mix the perfect cocktail, a chocolate and rum pairing class, and Levi Roots (yes, the sauce dude) is even going to show up and cook something too! Tickets cost from £39.50 and are available here.
Address: ILEC Conference Centre, 47 Lillie Road, London, SW6 1UD
Sargardi: 50% off food
One of the things I enjoyed the most in Barcelona when we went to Primavera earlier this year was the discovery of Basque country tapas. So I am LITTLE bit excited to hear about the opening of Sargardi in Shoreditch who are serving up just that, plus they have a charcoal grill where they will be firing up specially imported Galician beef and Txuleton steak. Oh, AND during their soft launch they are offering 50% off food from Monday 8th August to Sunday 4th September. I’m already there.
Address: Cordy House, 87-95 Curtain Road, London, EC2A 3BS
Yosma opening with 50% off food
A divine sounding new Turkish restaurant and bar opened in Marylebone yesterday in the form of Yosma. Now if this sounds a bit more fancy than the usual street food we peddle then let me just tell you this: the executive chef, Hus Vedat, previously worked at Barbecoa and intends for most of his menu to be pit-roasted over fire. There will also be twists on classic Turkish dishes such as borek and tarsus kebabs. Sounds good huh? If you need more persuading then they are offering 50% off all food from Monday 22nd August to Sunday 4th September 2016 and they will even let you book a table! (I bet that swung it.)
Address: 50 Baker Street, London, W1U 7BT
