A quick look at all the new movies out today. Including Dad’s Army, Trumbo, Point Break and Janis: Little Girl Blue.

New Movies: Point Break Remake Surfer

Dad’s Army

Another day, another remake. This time, it’s the remake of one of the greatest and most loved sitcoms, Dad’s Army. It seems we have reached the stage where there isn’t any point in asking why someone felt the urge to produce a remake of a classic film/television series, but just in case – why? The reviews haven’t been kind to this update, despite it boasting an undeniably great cast. One to watch if you feel your nostalgia needs to be updated.

Trumbo

It’s so odd seeing Bryan Cranston with hair… and not in a meth-lab. Trumbo tells the story of the eponymous Dalton Trumbo, renowned scriptwriter and novelist who found himself at the crappy end of America’s Cold War paranoia stick. Aligning himself with the Communist Party, he is held in contempt of court, imprisoned and blacklisted by Hollywood, forcing him to write hits such as Roman Holiday and Spartacus under a pseudonym. One to watch if you’re hankering for justice.

Point Break

Dude, where’s my remake? Yes, it’s two for you this week. This one is all about a bunch of brahs who like to brah out doing brah stuff like jump out of planes and ride motorbikes over the speed limit – but one is an FBI agent tasked with bringing the other one in. Heavy stuff, brah. A remake of the classic 90s film starring Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze. One to watch if you’re a total brah who likes insane brah stunts.

Janis: Little Girl BLue

This documentary was released in the US last autumn to coincide with the 45th anniversary of Janis Joplin’s death, but is only now making its way over to these shores. Despite having such a significant influence on Rock n Roll, Joplin has ever only been the subject of one other documentary back in 1974. This one goes all the way back to her school days and looks at her relationships with her family, lovers and music. One to watch if you liked Amy.
