The 10 year-old me just ran around screaming for five minutes and then fainted with excitement because Secret Cinema announced this morning that they will be doing a special summer version of everyone’s favourite chick flick, Dirty Dancing!!
As with most young girls raised in the 80s I grew up with Dirty Dancing. Me and my best friend Claire would literally watch it every day, copy all the dance moves and mouth along to every word. And I use the word ‘literally’ there in the legitimate way for once. So when I got the email about Secret Cinema recreating the Dirty Dancing world for a London film event in July I actually got a little shiver of excitement.
For six days in July (15th – 24th) 2016 Secret Cinema will be recreating Kellerman’s holiday resort complete with outdoor activities, a merengue class with Penny, Lisa and Robby, the infamous staff headquarters, super raunchy dance moves and of course, Jonny and Baby reenacting the whole thing. Personally, I would carry any number of watermelons to get a slice of that action.
After the sucess of Star Wars last year and their most recent awesome staging of Dr Strangelove, this will be another barnstormer.
