London food news: Free burgers, Beer Pong & Creme Egg Crodoughs

22 March, 2016 — by Toni Ratcliff0

It’s a bank holiday this week which means you don’t have to be at stupid work as much! Oh and, you can also get excited about these six London London food happenings as well. This week we got FREE burgers, 50% off lunch and dinner, a Rib Fest, beer pong, and a couple of Easter treats thrown in too. Jesus would have wanted it that way.

100 FREE Burgers on Wednesday!

French burger joint, Big Fernand, located just off of Tottenham Court Road, are celebrating their 1st birthday next week, aww! To mark the occasion they have created a truly special sounding birthday burger with Charolais beef, pork belly, Camembert, Calvados and apple compote, cocktail sauce and chives. This very fancy burger will be available in-store from 23rd March to April 10th. OR…. you can grab one for free if you manage to be one of the first 100 peeps through the door on Wednesday. Go, go, go!

The Lighterman is a new pub, dining room and bar located on Granary Square, just north of King’s Cross. They are opening their doors to you lovely public with a soft launch from Tuesday 22nd March to Monday 28th March when they will be offering 50% off food for breakfast, lunch and dinner! And that includes the Easter bank holiday! The Lighterman is split over three stories with views of Regents Canal and even a top floor wraparound terrace. They open officially on Tuesday 29th March but it’s worth dropping in this week for some delicious discounts.

Rib Fest at The Blue’s Kitchen!

The Blue’s Kitchen got a mention from us last week for their Monday Rib Night – which was delicious by the way! A full review will follow later this week – but now they are going one step further: with a four day long Rib Fest!! From the 28th to 31st March the forecourt of their Brixton branch will become home to DJ BBQ and his custom built 108 inch smoker, along with other BBQ royalty such as The Ribman, Shotgun BBQ and even Home Team BBQ who are coming all the way from South Carolina to bring you what has been voted ‘America’s most life changing ribs’! As well as more meat than you can handle expect to see BBQ staples like mac ‘n’ cheese, collard greens, pickles and tons and tons of BBQ sauce, naturally. And if you can still stand after all of that there will be live jazz and blues music from 6pm. I have already started starving myself in preparation…

Beer Pong bar opens!

I can’t decide if this is kinda cool or really stupid but I am including it anyway. In one of the most hipster things I have heard all year, a bar has opened in Shoreditch (obvs) called SiNK dedicated to ping pong and that student drinking game of choice, beer pong! Complete with proper tables and classic American red cups you can hire tables by the hour with teams of up to 24 people to get your game on. (My inner OCD just hopes you get clean balls every time…) And if playing against actual humans is too boring for you then you can go head-to-head with a table tennis robot to try and win a bucket of beers. What is this? Short Circuit?!

Hot Cross Bunny Burger, anyone?

Have you been looking to combine your love of cheeseburgers and Christian religious festivals for a while? Oh great, because the team behind a bunch of pubs in London (ETM Group) have created just that opportunity! Presenting, the Hot Cross Bunny Burger: a rabbit patty with smoked bacon, mushroom and Lincolnshire rarebit served on a hot cross bun. For real! It also comes with thick-cut chips, carrot mustard slaw and a bottle of Long Arm Brewing Co craft beer for just £12.50. These intriguing little bunnies are only available at participating ETM venues from Friday 25th March – Friday 1st April. Yeah, I am not 100% convinced on this one yet either but then I was wrong about the donut burger

The Creme Egg Crodough From Rinkoff’s Bakery

Ok, so I added this last one just because it was so goddam pretty! It doesn’t need much explanation, it’s just a cronut filled with a mock Creme Egg fondant and topped with white and toffee, orange fondant plus a mini Cadbury Creme Egg, of course. They are on sale for £3 each from Rinkoff Bakery and are available at both bakery locations on Jubilee Street and Vallance Road until March 26th. You’ll need to hurry though as apparently they usually sell out by 3pm! Run child, run!
