Grimes releases a beautiful new version of ‘California’, plus video

9 May, 2016 — by Christopher Ratcliff0

Grimes has released a new video for one of the MANY highlights from our very favourite album of 2015, the super-peppy yet surprisingly bittersweet ‘California’.

And as Claire Boucher knows you’ve already rinsed Art Angels half-to-death already, she’s produced a new version of the track to accompany it.

Awesome huh? Yeah it’s awesome. The new version is a lot more stripped down and delicate than the original, but somehow more upbeat. Go and eat a bag of sherbet and listen to it again. Your heart can just about take it.

The video was directed by Grimes and her brother Mac, and seems to suggest Boucher works part-time as a cleaner in a pottery studio and drives a Bedford Rascal. If true, neither of these things would surprise me at all.

For more brilliant Grimes stuff, you should also watch her performing ‘Flesh Without Blood’ on last week’s Jimmy Fallon show. It’s fricking ace and don’t worry, there’s only about 10 seconds of Fallon to get through.

You can see Grimes headlining the 6Music Arena at this year’s Latitude festival in July. We’re going, so you should come along too. Although we’ve only got a three-person tent so it may get a little snug.
