I’m probably the wrong animal to be reviewing Run the Jewels’ remix album, Meow the Jewels. so I’m going to call the cat in.
I’m waiting for Otis to come back, he’s our cat. I let him out the house this morning, minutes before learning that Run the Jewels have finally dropped their long awaited remix album Meow the Jewels for free. Otis would love this, it contains every track from last year’s Run the Jewels 2 (the best album of 2014) remixed with cat noises. Yes indeed. Based on what was essentially a dare from an anonymous Kickstarter campaign, El-P and Killer Mike have spent the last 12 months in-between being phenomenal on stage and being excellent on talk shows producing a remix album made almost entirely from cat meows, purrs, hisses and whatever other noises cats make. It’s not a joke. Plus if you go to the RTJ store and buy a copy on vinyl all the proceeds go to charities that will directly benefit the families of Eric Garner, Mike Brown and other victims of police brutality. So you should definitely do that now.
In the meantime, I’m probably the wrong animal to be reviewing this meowsterpiece. so I’m going to call Otis in.

Well that went about as well as any of us could have expected.
As for my opinion on Meow the Jewels… it’s a terrific, hilarious and surprisingly listenable experience, made all the more wonderful because it’s so bonkers. It also helps that it’s just as brutal and relevant as the non-feline original. 8/10
When I pressed Otis for some final thoughts on the album, he merely wandered off to his favourite pillow, curled himself up and fell asleep. By virtue of the fact he didn’t scratch me or vomit in the corner of the room, I’d say that’s a solid 8/10 from him too.
