Mouthwatering new food to eat in London this weekend: Cronuts, Chick ‘n’ Sours & Oktober Feast

30 September, 2016 — by Toni Ratcliff0

It’s a ‘new openings’ party fiesta in this week’s food news round-up!

We have the original Cronut bakery coming to town, Crosstown Doughnuts opening in Shoreditch, Chick ‘n’ Sours arriving in Covent Garden and Hawker House getting into the Oktoberfest spirit.

Oh and there’s that guy from Masterchef with the twiddly tache.

Original Cronut creator opens bakery in London!

Great news guys! After a long wait, Dominique Ansel, the original creator of the Cronut®, the beautiful love child spawned from combining a croissant and a doughnut, will be opening the doors of his bakery here in London town on Friday 30th September 2016!

The Dominique Ansel Bakery: London is based in Belgravia and will be open from 8am – 8pm every day (9am-8pm on Sundays) to fulfil all of your delicious pastry needs. If Cronuts are all a bit too hipster for you then maybe his famous Cookie Shot or Frozen S’mores will float your boat instead?

But be warned: if his bakeries in New York and Tokyo are anything to go by then you will need to get up pretty early in the morning to be first in the queue for any of these things. Grab your sleeping bag, we’re camping out.

Chick ‘n’ Sours opens in Seven Dials

In MORE great news, our very favourite fried chicken joint Chick ‘n’ Sours opened their second site in Seven Dials on Saturday 24th September! Expect more of the same delicious super crispy fried chicken with a few Asian influences chucked in, and excellent sour cocktails of course.

I have also heard that the new menu may contain new dishes including The Colonel Chicken Sandwich on potato bread too. From now until Sunday 2nd October they will be serving dinner from 5:30pm with a reservation only, no walk-ins yet. But trust me, it will be worth the wait.

Oktober Feast this weekend

You people like craft beer, right? And quirky German street food? Oh great, because the wunderbar people from Street Feast are holding an Oktober Feast party this weekend with just that! On Friday 30th September and Saturday 1st October Hawker House will be serving over 50 different German and craft beers plus German specialities including tiger prawn currywurst and chicken schnitzel at each of their street food vendors.

Tickets cost £15 and include a free pint plus a stein glass that you get to take home and keep as your very own. Prost!

Masterchef’s Tony Rodd opens new pop-up

Some of you may recognise Tony Rodd as the mister fancypants bowtie guy who came runner up in Masterchef 2015. Some of you may think that he just looks like a quintessential gentleman dandy. Well, technically you’re all right. But what you should actually know is that Tony Rodd and his pop-up, Well Dressed Plates, will be in residency at Strongroom in Shoreditch dishing up breakfast, lunch and dinner for the next three months.

This dude’s desserts always looked immense on the telly, so if nothing else I will be going to consume as much chocolate and peanut mousse cake with popcorn ice cream as my body can hold.

Crosstown Doughnuts opens in Shoreditch

We started with cake and so shall we endeth with cake as all good articles should. Gourmet doughnut gang, Crosstown Doughnuts, have been selling their sweet cakey circles all over town in various markets and outlets for a while now, but this week they opened second permanent shop on Brick Lane, right between the two infamous bagel/beigel joints (did someone say ‘carb coma’?)

Now, to be honest, I didn’t super love Crosstown Doughnuts when I tried them before, but I am willing to take one for the team and eat the WHOLE range again for re-evaluation. It’s tough at the top.

Right, I’m off to watch the clock tick past every single minute until I can go home now.
